THOKOZA is a Christian based African cultural group that began serving the Inland Empire of Southern California in December of 2001. This unique ensemble's name is a common word in several southern African languages, meaning; praise, thank, rejoice or be joyful. After years of singing and months of working in the studio, the Afrocentric gospel group "Thokoza" has finally released their debut album; simply titled "Terera" (translated "Listen.") Teaming up with Grammy award winning Engineer and Producer Bill Hare of DYZ Productions fame who lends his mixing and mastering expertise, Thokoza presents a recording that blends the best of African gospel tradition with modern vocal art. Bill's influence in the acapella realm is easily recognizable in big vocal band productions such as NoTA and Pentatonix from the TV show "The Sing Off", The Backbeats and many other internationally recognized vocal groups. Thokoza consists of talented singers from Africa and Jamaica, all of whose influence is musically reflected in the compilation. The group's composers and arrangers deliberately preserve an African flavor to the arrangements in order to give the audience an accurate representation of contemporary African gospel music.
