Janeen Puente was born into a family of performers, and is the granddaughter of the late legendary music icon Tito Puente. She attributes her distinctive singing voice to growing up in a Puerto Rican/American household where her influences ranged from Mariah Carey to Celia Cruz. Raised just outside of New York City, Janeen honed her performance in NYC nightclubs performing her brand of NY style dance music with Latin rhythms and influences. She has also had the great privilege of performing on stage with her grandfather on many occasions, in addition to her unique experience of growing up around and closely studying such great singers such as Celia Cruz and La India perform with her grandfather. Also close to her heart are women's and children's issues and Janeen has been actively involved in various charitable events including donating her time and performances to such causes as Breast Cancer Awareness and UNICEF. The Janeen Puente Orchestra developed when she moved to LA and met Eddie Del Rios- an accomplished percussionist who has played all over the world, with some of the biggest names in salsa. The band's origins based itself on tributing the female icons of salsa, from La Lupe to La India, but from there Janeen's own voice and style, backed with the straight forward swinging music, propelled the band to becoming a local favorite. Ever evolving, The Janeen Puente Orchestra has been working on their own original songs and arrangements, which they are excited to present to the world in their first album due this spring. Pooling together some of the West Coast's finest musicians, and under the leadership and the distinctive voice of Janeen Puente, The Janeen Puente Orchestra is captivating the salsa scene, and have been featured on Univision as well as popular internet and LA salsa radio shows.
