Paul Sachs writes lyrical and gritty songs. Born and raised in New York City. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Springsteen are the songwriters that influenced him, and pushed him into the folk music circles of the city. 'Survival is the New Success, continues the development of a folk musician for modern times. No hybrids appear, and no need to claim dual citizenship for cool cred as Folk Rock, the instrumentation on Survival is the New Success gathers around an acoustic guitar and the man whose finger-picking style is as crucial to the songs as his one-line jabs and jeers.' Alternante Root Magazine. 'Everything is cut and fit with a jeweler's precision, then played and sung as if presented like a gemstone on black velvet. There are elements of Bruce Springsteen and Harry Chapin in his voice, but it's all Paul, and boy, am I glad.' Richard Cuccaro-Acoustic Live. Sachs still lives in NYC, performing in various venues around the city. He has recorded five independent albums, featuring raw and seeringly personal songs of life and love on the mean streets. His fingerstyle guitar work and powerful voice combine to create mesmerizing vignettes. His last CD, 'Oil Town' was named one of the top folk albums in 2011 on both the Folk DJ list and Roots Music Report. Sing Out magazine states: 'Song after song he creates some lovely melodies. The cuts on 'Oil Town' involve those challenged by love, by work, and the struggles created by economic imbalance...This is a keeper, and it's excellence grows on you.' In 2013 he won the New Folk Songwriter's contest at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. Survival is the New Success is his 5th CD.
