Session musician, record label founder/owner, talent scout and singer Bonnie Guitar enjoyed a career in music that few of today's artists will ever match in terms of duration. She started singing as a teenager in the late 1930s and was still active in music when she died in January of this year - just a few weeks short of her 96th birthday!Success first came to Bonnie as an artist in the mid-late 50s, when she scored a big pop and country hit with her original version of Ned Miller's much covered (now) country standard 'Dark Moon'. She followed up with several other Hot 100 hits, including 1959's 'Candy Apple Red' which was one of the first released on her own Dolton label - also home to her discoveries the Fleetwoods and the Ventures. In this collection you will find every one of Bonnie's recordings from 1955 to 1962 inclusive. All are of the highest quality, and many deserved to be more successful than they actually were. If you enjoy the vocals of the likes of Patti Page and Doris Day, and you are not yet familiar with Bonnie, you will find much to admire here. Bonnie was a much admired individual who worked tirelessly on behalf of new talent, yet somehow she managed to sustain her own career - a career that also brought her almost a dozen more country hits from the mid-60s onwards. This superb 2CD collection - remastered, as always, from the finest available sources - will hopefully bring about the serious reappraisal of an artist who has been neglected for far too long.
