Placido Domingo offers an affectionate tribute to Italian and Neapolitan songs. For a declaration of love, it's never too late! Hard to believe, but Plácido Domingo has waited forty years before recording repertoire that is self-evident for a tenor with Mediterranean roots like his. Since Enrico Caruso, Neapolitan and Italian songs have been known for their potential for tugging the heartstrings - they consist of catchy melodies and melodramatic texts that tell about lovesickness and longing and at the same time celebrate the intensity of life and emotions. On this album, Placido Domingo has for the most part dedicated himself to the rarities of Neapolitan and Italian songs, although he interprets some of the highlights as well, including Gastaldon's 'Musica Prohibita' and the well-known 'Core N'Grato' by Cardillo. All songs are newly arranged and masterly played by Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Eugene Kohn.
