Please scroll down for reviews.. -- Review from Metal Sound Definitely this band sounds like old records from Led Zeppelin, perhaps I need to mention a few more bands like The Who and also some modern acts like The Black Crowes. All in all, sound is totally inspirited by 70s. Although that this record isn't into modern kind of rock, I have noticed some psycho or should I say more strange melodies and vibes. You know, after the first track I was travelling through time back in 70 I know that it was strange but this group has successfully done what other bands were preformed so long time ago. They are like catchers of old and good rock times. From production to guitar sound everything sounds so perfectly. I also need to give a compliment to vocals which are indeed great recorded. Also, this release comes in a nice digipak. I also need to add that some tracks are really good as Grab a Star or Keep on Moving. Probably the best issue that I have received for a long time. Aleskandar Nedeljkovic (9) -- Review from Classic Rock Society Lemon Bird is another Swedish rock band making their debut but, for a change, they have ignored the more extreme branch of metal favoured by their countrymen. Instead, they have opted to explore the roots side of rock and have embraced the blues root derivative much favoured by the Mighty Led Zeppelin. Rara Avis is an album of classic rock delights that was born today but very much harks back to the glory days of hard rock from the early 70's to the early 80's. They have an outstanding vocalist in Jonatan Andersson and he comes very close to stealing the show with his great range and delivery. There is a definite 'British' sound about them and they surely will go on to bigger and better thing. An album to enjoy and savour. TC / Classic Rock Society -- Review from Glitzine Swedish retro rockers Lemon Bird dish up a slice of classic blues tinged rock n roll in the style of Led Zep, Deep Purple, Bad Company and if that's your bag then you're in for a treat. With the popularity in recent times of bands like 'Big Linda' and 'Wolfmother' there's definitely commercial promise for Lemon Bird. There's no evidence of 'Swedishness' in the voice of Jonte who delivers a great performance throughout the album. The other chaps are obviously very competent musicians who hold that very rare commodity of 'feel' in their playing. The album, although sounding retro, stands up in today's climate and I can imagine them being a crackin live band too. 'Keep On Moving' is a whiskey soaked bottle slide guitar groover that really captures that Led Zep II style feel and is one of the stand-out tracks for me. I love the vibe... just close your eyes and enjoy! Unfortunately the next track is a bit of a strange one and reminds me of that 'Spinal Tap' moment when Nigel Tufnell reminisces about the song '(Cry Cry Cry) All the Way Home'. The tune just doesn't sound like it belongs here and sounds like some other tin-pot blues band managed to sneak in the studio and record without the other guys noticing.... Oh lord! Back on track over the next couple of songs and the 'Black Dog-esque' 'Ain't Gonna Grieve' is something you could imagine the festival crowds lapping up next summer. I for one would definitely lie in a large sun-soaked field with a cup of turbo-shandy enthusiastically nodding away like those hippies you see in old Woodstock footage. The song 'Climbing' leans towards the Deep Purple/Rainbow influence they also obviously have and Jonte sounds a little like Joe Lynn Turner. A catchy tune that will have fans of this genre smiling. You could do a hell of a lot worse than order this album and check it out if you like the references I've mentioned. These guys deserve to get out of Sweden and they deserve a slice of your time.. give this Lemon a squeeze.... 8/10 by Hilda -- Review from Hard Rock House With Rara Avis Lemon Bird have released an album that not only draws influence from the rock music of the early 70's it actually sounds like it was recorded during that era. The tone of the album returns you to a period in time that offered very little in the way of production trickery and lays bare the band's talent for all to hear. The decision to record their debut album in such an untreated way is testament to the band and proves that they are confident in their abilities and although this Swedish quartet have drawn a number of comparisons to the likes of Led Zeppelin and The Black Crowes, it must be stated that their vintage rock sound actually owe as much to country, bluegrass and folk music as it does to hard rock and the blues. 'Stepping Outside' gets the ball rolling and, without delay, you are transported to another time and place, it's drenched in southern rock nostalgia that helps rekindle the laid-back yet domineering spirit of Lynard Skynard. This spirit continues to rise throughout proceedings and is very palpable during the first five songs. Big rumbling drums, muddy bass lines and blues infused guitar solos are all present and executed in a raw primitive manner. The album also presents a few playful melodies in the form of 'Grab A Star' and 'All His Stories', songs created using such instruments as banjos, mandolins, the harmonica and even a cowbell. Hard rock rigour is also in attendaAin't 'Aint Gonna Grieve' has unashamedly borrowed the stop-start swagger of Black Dog, whilst 'Don't Hang Up (On Me)' tips it's hat towards Whole Lotta Love. Then there's 'Climbing' a track that would sit comfortably on Deep Purple's Fireball album due to the Hammond organ flurries. These songs alert the listener to the band's capabilities and do inject some British hard rock influences into the mix, which can't be a bad thing! 'Rara Avis' may be Lemon Bird's debut flight into rock n' rolls turbulent skies, but on the evidence of this release they are about to stay airborne for quite some time. Good stuff. Shaun Smith -- Review from Rock Zone Productions If you're looking for great, rockin, good time music that has a classic 70's Rock sound then one band that you'll no doubt want to check out is Lemon Bird. Don't let the name of the band fool you because these guys really know how to Rock and deliver the good on their latest release Rara Avis. Have no idea what the album title means either but I'll tell you these guys wear their influences proudly on their sleeves. The band's sound is the rough N Tumble rawness of Grand Funk Railroad mixed with the Blues of both The Black Crowes and the hard edge of Led Zeppelin. The one track that really stands out is 'Grab A Star', it's this song that is that stands out the most simply because it sounds the most different. On this track the band shows their influence for Country/bluegrass music and the song is a pretty, good one at that. None of the 12 tracks on this CD though will disappoint any true hard rock fan.
