First-rate modern zydeco, at once slick, sophisticated, and rootsy. Rapone, who's the brother of zydeco superstar Queen Ida, is an inspiring bandleader, the possessor of a supple, soulful tenor. He also has ears for music beyond the bayou. Here, along with traditional, accordion-driven Cajun numbers like "La Vierge" and "Chere Duloone," he also offers up an impassioned '60s-style R&B ballad ("Our Hearts Will Dance in Love Again"), takes a turn toward Hank Williams country ("Springtime"), and goes totally instrumental ("Toussaint Shuffle") with some hot bluegrass banjo.
