Review

Rolling Stone (5/24/01, p.86) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Full of hope and expectation....Anderson's writing style and delivery are conversational, which fits well with producer Mike Cary's easygoing guitar soul..."
Entertainment Weekly (4/27/01, p.118) - "...A Macy Gray protege....she's got a knack for crafting freshly minted soul scorchers that old- and new-schoolers alike can get behind..." - Rating: B

"Heard It All Before (E-Smoove House Filter Mix)" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award For Best Remixed Recording.

R&B diva Sunshine Anderson has carved out a niche all her own. While she has some of the roots-conscious feel of Macy Gray (a strong supporter of Anderson) and D'Angelo, she doesn't go for a retro-'70s sound. Conversely, Anderson surrounds her powerful, throaty voice with many of the trademarks of contemporary R&B production (drum loops, faux-analog synth lines), but she's undeniably a cut above many of the generic-sounding new-schoolers who worship at the shrine of R. Kelly and the like. There's a conceptual thread linking the songs on YOUR WOMAN, but it's not exactly MOBY DICK. You won't need any footnotes to enjoy this album, just a passion for sharply executed, highly emotive R&B with one foot in tradition and one inclined determinedly towards the future.
