Review

Spin (p.96) - "Much of it hearkens back to their spazz-core roots, while other tracks find a way to square falsetto prog rock with screamo frenzy."
Uncut (p.71) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]heatrical an unhinged, sometimes more reminiscent of the deranged skronk of Pussy Galore or TROUT MASK REPLICA played at 45rpm, than any more conventional rock document."
Alternative Press (p.194) - "Only time will accord the Bloods with the same kind of reverence given to such old-school avatars as Gang Of Four, Wire and Public Image Ltd. Wait and see."

Title Note

Colored vinyl.

The Blood Brothers (Punk): Jordan Blilie (vocals, guitar, percussion); Johnny Whitney (vocals, piano, Wurlitzer piano, Farfisa, percussion); Cody Votolato (guitar, baritone guitar, E-bow, whistle, trumpet, percussion, background vocals); Morgan Hendersen (guitar, accordion, piano, synthesizer, double bass, bass guitar, background vocals); Mark Gajadhar (drums, percussion).

Additional personnel: Justin Deary (vocals).

Recording information: Robert Lang Studios, Seattle, Washington (2006).

Seattle post-hardcore outfit the Blood Brothers wear their musical hearts on their sleeves. Railing against mainstream society with their frenetic, experimental punk sound, the Blood Brothers embrace musical radicalism at its most extreme. On their sixth album YOUNG MACHETES, they match blistering sheets of guitar abrasion with bellicose shrieks to disarmingly powerful effect. At times, though, YOUNG MACHETES incorporates odd moments of nearly pop-like accessibility--bouncy keyboard lines and melodic hooks--offering a lighthearted respite from all the aggression.
