Sarah Harmer, one-time singer/songwriter for underappreciated Canadian rockers Weeping Tile, possesses the most natural of voices, imbued with a gentle yet forceful grace. On 2000's YOU WERE HERE, Harmer holds it up against varying backdrops for an elegant, neatly dappled solo debut. On one hand there's "Basement Apt.," a reworking of an early Weeping Tile song, and "Open Window (The Wedding Song)," a sweetly simple country ballad that's earned a self-explanatory following; on the other stands the faraway, violin-streaked sadness of "Coffee Stain" and the Carter Family-esque "Uniform Grey."
