Review

Rolling Stone (p.99) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "If you have a warm spot for RENT, you'll eat up Amanda Palmer's cobwebby piano stylings..."
Entertainment Weekly - "This duo does a pretty credible job of blurring the ideological and stylistic lines between rock and cabaret." -- Grade: B

Title Note

The Dresden Dolls: Brian Viglione (vocals, guitar, bass guitar, drums, percussion); Amanda Palmer (vocals, piano, organ, Mellotron); Holly Brewer (background vocals).

On their second album, YES, VIRGINIA, gothic-cabaret duo the Dresden Dolls move further toward a more accessible pop middle ground, but still retain touches of their manic, punkish roots. It's a deliciously bitter pill to swallow, like the theme to the TV show "Dawson's Creek" spiked with Drano. Keyboardist and vocalist Amanda Palmer croons in a molasses-rich alto, enunciating each word with the determination of Billy Joel on speed and with the verbal dexterity of an auctioneer. YES, VIRGINIA is the type of music one should listen to before quitting a job, just for the affirmation.
