Buchner's classic drama is powerfully updated in this modern tale of a man, Woyzeck, who leads a horrific existence. Working as a flagman in a decrepit trainyard, he must battle poverty and an unsympathetic wife, as well as many other crushing factors. He eventually takes a job as a lab rat in order to feed his family. His task is to eat nothing but peas, which will hopefully prove a bizarre medical theory. When he discovers that his wife is cheating on him with a cocky policeman, his fading sanity explodes, climaxing in a desperate act of violence.
