A decade after releasing his acclaimed first solo album, RETURN OF THE FROG QUEEN, reluctant emo godfather Jeremy Enigk ( of Sunny Day Real Estate/the Fire Theft fame) unveiled this 2006 follow-up. Like its predecessor, WORLD WAITS features plenty of atmospheric acoustic arrangements, as revealed on the lilting and thoughtful "River to Sea," but it also revisits majestic Sunny Day territory on "Been Here Before," which slowly builds to a drum-driven crest. Those expecting the refined chamber-pop sound of FROG QUEEN will find that sensibility scaled back on many of these songs, leaving Enigk's unmistakable voice--which can go from an intimate whisper to a passionate wail--as the main thread between both compelling projects.
