The self-titled debut from this promising Canadian four-piece features simple but cannily arranged psych-rock that recalls some of the breezier moments on Rhino's seminal NUGGETS box set. The chiming chords and tentative vocal harmonies of the standout track, "Black Rice," sound like some lost slice of California commune rock from the late `60s, but the angular guitar lines and matter-of-fact percussion also proves that this group is well-schooled in the knowing deconstructions of the post-punk era.
