Review

Entertainment Weekly (No. 844, p.155) - "...[T]he Joggers' asymmetrical riffage and labrynthine phrasing sometimes achieve moments of epic indie-rock grandeur...." - Grade: B+
Magnet (p.102) - "[W]hen this band surprises -- sounding raw and classic, not unlike Don Caballero gerrymandering the three-minute pop song, plus lyrics that quote poet Wallace Stevens' atheist manifesto -- it provides moments indie rock could use more of."

Title Note

The Joggers: Ben Whitesides (vocals); Darrell Bourque, Jake Morris.

Recording information: Jackpot!, Portland, Oregon (2005).

The Joggers, who hail from Portland, Oregon, are proof that there is still a good deal of mileage left in mining the sounds of early-'80s post-punk. With a heavy debt to the spiky funk-punk of Gang of Four and a dash of the pop smarts of contemporaries like Franz Ferdinand, the Joggers craft music that is moody and jagged, yet full of bouncy, memorable hooks. Like their debut SOLID GUILD, 2005's WITH A CAPE AND A CANE is a highly listenable dose of angular and accessible guitar-driven indie rock that is sure to please fans of the sound.
