Title Note

Steve Austin, leader of seminal power trio Today Is the Day, described his band's second full-length as a tribute to his father, who died in a car crash shortly before the album's recording, and dedicated it to "the pain of living." WILLPOWER (reissued here with a bonus track, "Execution Style") rises to the dedication's challenge with wind-tunnel fury. Powerhouse drumming, guitars that call upon every extreme genre out there from grindcore to noise to stoner rock to classic metal, and Austin's wailing vocals and gymnastic songwriting style, converge in an indescribable musical stew. This is 1990s metal at its most original and bracing.
