Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Blitzen Trapper makes music that plays like an experimental collage of alternative rock through the years. Mixing acoustic folk, psychedelia, power pop, prog rock, country rock, and 1990s- and 2000s-era indie, this adventurous sextet specializes in lo-fi musical post-modernism. The band's self-titled debut was released in 2004, with FIELD REXX appearing the following year. WILD MOUNTAIN NATION (2007) received rave critical notices and created a buzz in the indie press, heightening the band's profile. After having issued their first three albums independently, Blitzen Trapper signed to Sub Pop in 2007.

Title Note

Portland, Oregon's Blitzen Trapper play upbeat, lazy-day country rock that often sounds as if it's been plucked straight out of Laurel Canyon circa 1975. While WILD MOUNTAIN NATION, the band's third full-length, does contain traces of contemporary indie rock (see "Cool Love Number One," with its affected vocals and herky-jerky guitar licks), the boys in Blitzen Trapper seem content to simply indulge their influences, rather than over-thinking things and ending up a half-baked My Morning Jacket. The classic rock songbook is very much a stone, but as Blitzen Trapper shows here, there's plenty of fresh blood still be drawn.
