The DVDi, also known as a DVD TV game or interactive DVD, is a stand-alone game that operates on a conventional DVD player and does not require the use of a specific gaming platform. DVDi games were first introduced to the public in the late 1990s. Due to lack of awareness and confusion surrounding initial marketing efforts, the public did not respond as positively as hoped for this format and was commonly regarded as an entertainment rather than a gaming medium.
In 2002, Screenlife Games introduced the popular board game Scene It! Featuring DVDi technology. The Scene It! Series has gone on to sell more than 15 million games and the series has grown to over 20 titles. With this push in popularity, more gaming and entertainment companies plan to release DVDi games in 2008 and beyond.
