DVD-Audio, also known as DVD-A, is a digital format that allows high-fidelity audio content to be stored on a DVD. The DVD-A does not include any actual video content, unlike the similar and often mistaken video DVD, which contains both video and audio.
DVD-Audio offers multiple audio channel configurations, ranging from mono to surround sound at varying frequencies. Originally introduced in 2000, the DVD-Audio is in direct competition with the SACD, a similar and more popular high fidelity audio format.
