The audiobook format is a recording that consists mainly of spoken word, as opposed to the music CD album which focuses primarily on music. This configuration includes, but non-exclusively, the adapted audio version of commercially printed materials such as books and other spoken programs.
Audiobooks are distributed primarily on CDs, cassette tapes, audio DVDs and in downloadable digital formats such as MP3s and Windows Media Audio files.
Generally, the audiobooks for most popular titles become available along with the release of the original hardcover version.
