Album Description

Timmy Thomas was definitely not over produced. Usually his recordings consisted of Thomas playing organ and singing, accompanied by a drum machine. The formula worked on "Why Can't We Live Together," a million-selling message song. Lightning, however, didn't strike twice -- he never had another one as successful. Sparseness works sometimes, but after 20-tracks the holes become gaping; Thomas is easier to embrace on a shorter set. "Ebony Affair," a duet with Betty Wright; "People Are Changin'"; "Sweet Brown Sugar"; "Freak In, Freak Out"; "Dizzy, Dizzy World"; and "Fox With the Box" provide some good moments, but nothing earthshaking or essential. ~ Andrew Hamilton
