Toronto-based production duo Circle Research is comprised of two diehard hip-hop heads who know their equipment and their stacks of vinyl inside and out. With its staggering 72 tracks, many of which are under a minute long, WHO? is a whirlwind spin through Circle Research's postmodern, beat-driven universe. A clear soft spot for `70s and `80s electro-funk dominates, but that doesn't keep jazz, doo-wop, disco, and left-field samples from cropping up all over the place. Yet Circle Research still maintains a grip on all the sweet, head-nodding grooves, making WHO? surprisingly cohesive.
