Xavier Rudd Artist Snapshot:

Folk-rock singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd is the Jack Johnson of the Land Down Under. The surfer and musician plays a supremely mellow form of acoustic folk infused with various world-music instrumentation--much of which is integral to the native music of his homeland, most notably the didgeridoo. Rudd has developed a strong following thanks to relentless touring, and a live show that finds the intrepid artist himself playing all the various instruments that populate his sound. Although it took a few years, Rudd finally scored a deal with the American label ANTI--which released his fourth album, WHITE MOTH, in 2007.

Review

Dirty Linen (p.58) - "[The album] showcases Rudd's appealing folk-pop voice, his virtuosity on slide guitar, didjeridu, and a handful of other instruments, and particularly his engaging, passionate songs."

Title Note

Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd turns in another batch of heartfelt, stylistically eclectic tunes on 2007's WHITE MOTH. As with his previous releases, WHITE MOTH features a mix of folk music with reggae flavors and ample doses of indigenous instruments and vocalists from his native land. Yet the focus of the album is still Rudd's songwriting, which is expressive, compelling, and committed to exploring both the personal and the political (including addressing the struggles of Australia's native population). The result adheres to Rudd's usual high standard in both lyrical content and groove-centered songcraft.
