Duncan Sheik seems to have learned a lot from composing the musical SPRING AWAKENING in 2006. On his first release since then, his writing and arranging skills have shown a huge amount of growth. While WHISPER HOUSE generally retains Sheik's trademark soft-pedaled pop approach and hushed vocal delivery, and there's an undeniable accessibility to a number of the tunes here, there's also an unprecedented amount of sophistication to the melodic and harmonic sensibilities Sheik displays, pointing his music in unexpected new directions.
