Review

Alternative Press (p.133) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "[Robinson] lends the most inspired performance of his career to WHAT IT TAKES, unleashing a torrent of lyrical fury and frustration."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.54) - "The Sleeping deal in passionate screamo/metalcore that manages to be extremely catchy while delivering several fists to the gut."

Title Note

The Sleeping: Douglas Robinson (vocals); Paul Cadena (guitar); Chris Evans (keyboards); Salvatore Mignano (bass guitar); Joe Zizzo (drums, percussion).

Audio Mixer: Brian McTernan.

Audio Remasterer: Ryan Smith.

Recording information: Salad Days Studio, Baltimore MD.

Far from cookie-cutter post-hardcore, Long Island's the Sleeping has cultivated a reputation for risk and experimentation that differs from their peers. Shying away from neither progressive nor pop sounds (considered the kiss of death for some heavy bands), the Sleeping finds a way to integrate those strains on WHAT IT TAKES. The simple fact that they have a keyboard player offers them more opportunity for textured sound, such as on the dynamic "Friday Night" and the chiming, atmospheric "Running Faster." When they let it rip, however, as on "Refusive Relationship," it's a welcome slap.
