Formed by a bevy of metal veterans, Five Finger Death Punch emerged from the muck of Los Angeles with a form of thrash as potent and abrasive as its name. Led by Zolthan Bathory, the band stoked a sensation on Korn's "Family Values" tour with its irreverent riffs and dark, off-kilter lyrics. In 2007, the four-piece unveiled its heralded major label debut, THE WAY OF THE FIST, released just two years after the band's first gig.

As its name indicates, Five Finger Death Punch packs a serious sonic wallop. On WAY OF THE FIST, the band offers up its appealing brand of metal, which moves between hardcore, ominous black metal, and melodic metal a la System of a Down or Alice in Chains. Tunes like the opener "Ashes" and "Salvation" are cases in point, alternating pummeling, in-your-face verses with winding, hooky choruses. WAY OF THE FIST rocks hard, and--with its sense of variety-- should appeal to metalheads of many stripes.
