Title Note

To call TJ Rehmi's fourth full-length release a "chill" album would reduce it to only one of its many virtues. Rehmi is known as a leading proponent of Bhangra--traditional Punjab folk music re-interpreted by contemporary dance DJs--but this album favors the introspective, meditative qualities of traditional ragas. "Lone Rider" is an eight-minute journey that opens with solo guitar over an ambient backing that slowly builds, not to a percussive climax, but a smooth release. "Axis of Ignorance" incorporates the sarangi--a bowed instrument common to classical Indian music, usually used to mimic the feel and timbre of vocals--to add a layer of aggression on the album's most up-tempo track. The blissed-out final cut, "The Escape," produces the very condition alluded to in the album's title.
