The 2-CD compilation VOODOO CHILD: THE JIMI HENDRIX COLLECTION contains both original studio recordings and rare alternate takes as well as many previously unavailable live performances recorded at various venues between 1967 and 1970. Also includes a 20-page color booklet with a biographical essay, historical photos and comprehensive recording notes.

Personnel includes: Jimi Hendrix (vocals, guitar, piano, harpsichord, glockenspiel); Dave Mason (acoustic guitar, background vocals); Noel Redding (bass, background vocals); Billy Cox (bass); Buddy Miles (drums, background vocals); Mitch Mitchell (drums); Juma Sultan (percussion); The Breakaways, The Sweet Inspirations, Roger Chapman, Andy Fairweather Low, Arthur Allen, Albert Allen (background vocals).

Producers include: Jimi Hendrix, Chas Chandler, Eddie Kramer, Mitch Mitchell, John Jansen.

Compilation producers: Janie Hendrix, John McDermott.

Engineers include: Dave Siddle, Eddie Kramer, George Chkiantz.

Recorded in various locations between June 18, 1967 & August 30, 1970. Includes liner notes by Kurt Loder.

Overseen by the production company formed by Jimi Hendrix's estate, the 2-CD VOODOO CHILD is the definitive compilation of the late innovator's live and studio output. Whether it's the eerie musical mojo conjured up throughout "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," the transcendental psychedelia fueled by backward-masked guitar on "Are You Experienced," or the delicate beauty of "Angel," the Seattle native's jaw-dropping range still resonates three decades after his death. Among the many treats rounding out the studio segments making up Disc One are a looser and funkier alternate take of "Stone Free" and the original Band Of Gypsies single version of the chugging "Izabella."

Disc Two handily captures Hendrix's live side, ranging from his explosive cover of The Troggs' "Wild Thing" delivered as part of a global debut from the stage of 1967's Monterey International Pop Festival, to a fiery "Freedom" from his final live show at England's Isle Of Wight in 1970. Other featured nuggets include an impromptu, energetic cover of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode," and Hendrix's requisite incendiary deconstruction of the "Star Spangled Banner" played in the early morning hours of Woodstock. All this makes VOODOO CHILD essential for fans of musical innovation.
