This CD documenting recordings from 1946 and 1947 demonstrates the brilliance of the Gene Krupa Orchestra. Carolyn Grey's seductive singing on "That Old Devil Moon" and "Yes, Yes Honey" is simply unforgettable. Moreover, Charlie Ventura's Hawkins-esque tenor work on Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love?" is striking and authoritative. The band really burns on "Leave Us Leap," spotlighting the dazzling stick work of the revolutionary drummer/bandleader. And not to be forgotten, Anita O'Day's (Krupa's most famous vocalist) singing on "Bolero At The Savoy" is as inimitable as it is charming.
