British singer Russell Watson bursts onto the U. S. music scene with THE VOICE, a debut album that's already achieved blockbuster status in his homeland and promises to take the rest of the world by storm. He possesses a crowd-pleasing tenor voice that he puts to good use in an eclectic mix of quasi-operatic pop anthems, well-known arias, Italian songs, and ultra-romantic ballads. Watson moves confidently through the diverse collection, but shines in those selections that seem tailor-made for his particular vocal style such as Ennio Morricone's "Nella Fantasia" and Lucio Dalla's "Caruso."

The album also features Watson in a variety of vocal partnerships: with Maire Brennan in the ethereal, Celtic-tinged "Saylon Dola," Cleopatra Higgins in the soulful "Someone Like You," and Shaun Ryder in the Freddie Mercury extravaganza, "Barcelona." Watson's combination of good looks, charisma and charm, appealing vocal manner, and firm grasp of the recipe for commercial success should prove irresistible to fans of Andrea Bocelli, Charlotte Church, The Irish Tenors, and the like. THE VOICE most certainly announces the start of his rapid ascent to crossover superstardom.
