Four-fifths of Welsh band Panic Room--everyone but the bassist--are former members of prog cult heroes Karnataka, and the new group's debut album is not far removed from their earlier work. As before, the focus on VISIONARY POSITION lies as much with singer Anne-Marie Helder's powerful but controlled voice (similar in many ways to Curved Air's Sonja Kristina) as with Jon Edwards' near-symphonic keyboard parts. Highlights include the assertive opener, "Elektra City," and the atmospheric wash of "Moon on the Water."
