Dirty Linen (p.92) - "VIRIDIAN can be quite mesmerizing, and Young, who handles most of the leads, has a nice tone."
No Depression (p.117) - "The Greencards are most successful in their healthy respect for tradition, be it within the realm of American roots music or epic, flourishing jigs."
Contemporary bluegrass outfit the Greencards hit their stride with their third album, 2007's VIRIDIAN. The members of the trio hail from Australia and the U.K., but you'd never guess, given their command of deeply satisfying American roots music. Lead vocalist Carol Young has a rich, lovely lilt, and the fiddle and mandolin work is dazzling throughout. Moreover, the tunes on VIRIDIAN, largely originals, are very strong, making the Greencards' third effort the disc to get for sampling contemporary bluegrass at its most organic.
