The packaging and design of Vintage Chill, Vol. 1 are most impressive. ~ Rob Theakston

Somewhere along the way, the concept of a chill-out room got refined and redesigned to conveniently fit like a glove, applicable to any and every genre of music humanly conceivable. But what has suffered the most is unquestionably the electronic music genre. With a plethora of faceless, nameless compilations oversaturating the market, the ability to differentiate between quality and not is near impossible, unless you read countless magazines devoted to the art of downtempo music each month. Looks indeed can be deceiving, and nowhere is this more accurate than with Vintage Chill. While the packaging and the design are most impressive, the age-old adage of not judging a book by its cover rings more clear and true than any bell. Most of these tracks are highly derivative and lack the musicianship and passion that separate the good from the mediocre. The rampant theme of enjoying this music with wine is most appropriate, as it would probably take two or three bottles of a good merlot to make this compilation blur out of audible focus and memory. Seek elsewhere for your chillaxation. ~ Rob Theakston
