VERSIONS, the follow-up to Thievery Corporation's well-received 2005 album, THE COSMIC GAME, presents a collection of laid-back remixes from Eric Hilton and Rob Garza. While the lauded electronica duo does offer up three of its own tracks (including the previously unreleased reggae number "Originality," with Sister Nancy), the set is primarily dedicated to other artists, whether it's a dreamy reworking of Nouvelle Vague's "This Is Not a Love Song" (a Public Image Ltd. cover), a beat-heavy tweaking of the Doors' "Strange Days," or a trip-hop take on Sarah McLachlan's "Dirty Little Secret." With its high-profile acts and inventive production, VERSIONS outshines Thievery Corporation's DJ-KICKS mix, placing it on par with the revered earlier compilation ABDUCTIONS & RECONSTRUCTIONS.
