Modeled after the psychedelic, farfisa-driven 1960s garage-rock that was (and remains) popular in Cambodia, Los Angeles's Dengue Fever, together since 2001, are one of the more colorful hybrids in the indie-pop world, Charismatic lead singer Chhom Nimol vocalizes Khmer lyrics in an otherworldy soprano, backed expertly by brothers Zac and Ethan Holtzman. The music is hypnotic, danceable, and unlike almost any other American indie band.
