Few would have guessed at any point over the last 20 years or so that '80s heartthrob Rick Springfield would release a major-label album in 2008 featuring new material that sounded completely contemporary. And yet VENUS IN OVERDRIVE is populated, for the most part, by concise, hard-hitting, hooky tunes that would be completely at home on mainstream pop-rock radio circa '08. It's not so much that Springfield has reinvented himself--"What's Victoria's Secret?" in fact bears a distinct resemblance to Springfield's '80s smash "Jessie's Girl"--but, more that, the timeless power-pop values that were always a part of the Aussie rocker's sound stand up as well now as they ever did.

Venus in Overdrive, co-written/produced with band mate Matt Bissonette, is Rick Springfield taking a bite out of rock with a sharp edge that that makes Venus that much more alluring. Rick brings it all on here, with revelations about love, death, war, but doesnt let -- or bring -- you down. His introspective take on these realities sets the tone for every track on the CD and the tightly interwoven lyrics and music pull the whole album together. This album takes the listener on a totally enjoyable -- and repeatable -- rock and roll ride.

Venus in Overdrive can only thrill you! Ive listened to it with friends age 14-80, literally, male and female - and all segments selected have enjoyed. Some prefer certain songs to others (I love the 1st single "Whats Victorias Secret" and "Saint Sahara" -theyre amazing and beautiful and fun. Rick Springfield is really a long standing talent in the music world and I for one (among many) am grateful for that. Go get your cd now - you wont be disappointed. Its new, fresh material and the 1st song has a nod to "Jessies Girl" which is really cute, clever and fun. Rick Springfield in overdrive talent on this one - straight As from me.
