After the frenetic, hardcore drum n' bass explorations of GO PLASTIC and DO YOU KNOW, Squarepusher's Tom Jenkinson returned on 2004's ULTRAVISITOR to the IDM-jazz fusion that made MUSIC IS ROTTED ONE NOTE one of the electronica's seminal albums. Jenkinson's jazz influences have never been traditional--he draws inspiration primarily from avant garde and musique concrete-influenced fusions of the 1960s and `70s. Dense, brain-stretching combinations of sounds balance the freedom of improvisation, serving up dazzling, sometimes overwhelming sound collages. The result is, alongside MUSIC IS ROTTED ONE NOTE, one of the Jenkinson's finest.
