This two-disc retrospective of Tyrone Davis, the Chicago-based R&B singer who died in 2005, emphasizes his ability to interpret ballads, including a dramatically slowed-down version of Eddie Floyd's classic "Knock on Wood," and the gospel-influenced "Wrapped Up in Your Warm and Tender Love," as well as covering his more familiar uptempo dance hits like "Can I Change My Mind" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time." Davis was a master at delivering sophisticated, smooth soul, as evidenced by his masterful, Percy Sledge-like vocal on "Undying Love," and his joyful mid-1970s hit, "Turning Point." This collection of highlights from his 40-year-plus career provides ample evidence of his unsung mastery of the genre.
