Here, Dianne Reeves selects from the catalog of Nina Simone. In her thoughtful liner notes, Reeves tells of her long fascination (beginning in junior high) with Simone. She notes the singer's fearless ability to transcend musical categories and explore songs of any genre with her own unique vision, her classically influenced piano playing, and her "rich and dark and beautiful" voice.

Reeves' choice of tracks includes the unforgettable sultry and sad "Wild is the Wind," an absolutely stunning and heartbreaking live version of "Don't Smoke in Bed," the socially relevant "Images," "Four Woman," and "See-Line Woman," as well as Simone's exquisite and moving hit "I Loves You, Porgy." This is an excellent collection and a wonderful place to begin your own long fascination with the undeniable artistry, integrity, and magic of Nina Simone.
