Synopsis

George, a loser guy, gets a lucky break when his dad wins a failing TV station in a poker game. When pop says he has to sell the station to pay gambling debts, George scrambles to buy the station, which he has pushed to the top of the ratings. But his arch rival seems to have the same idea.

Filmed in DeLuxe color at Sweetwater Ranch, Aqua Dulce, California and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Began shooting July 18, 1988; completed shooting September 1988. Released in the USA July 21, 1989. Released on video January 25, 1990.

Additional credits: radio personality Dr. Demento appears in a cameo as a "Whipped Cream Eater;" special makeup effects by Doug White Makeup and Effects Laboratories Inc.; fantasy/music video sequences co-produced by Susan Zwerman; computer animation and music video editing by Rick Morris; claymation effects by Chiodo Bros. Film includes clips from the TV show "Mr. Ed" and the movie "Mars Needs Women.

Directorial debut for Jay Levey, Al Yankovic's collaborator and writing partner; Al Yankovic's first starring role in a feature film.

The filmed is dedicated to the late Trinidad Silva who plays Raul Hernandez.

Product Notes

Funnyman "Weird" Al Yankovic stars in this comedy as George Newman, a man who takes over a low-rent TV station won by his uncle in a poker game. Newman's unconventional methods for boosting ratings include giving the station's janitor his own children's program -- with spectacularly successful results. Complications ensue when the unscrupulous head of a rival network tries to drive Newman off the air, but there's still plenty of time out for fantasy music video segments and TV bits which showcase Yankovic's talents as a parodist.
