Title Note

For their fourth full-length, noise compadres Mike Donovan and Matt Harman--aka Sic Alps--perfected their alchemy of turning lo-fi basement slop into psych gold. Like their fellow lo-fi revivalists, Times New Viking, these San Franciscans refocus early '90s Guided By Voices through a severe noise-rock prism. Unlike both of those above-mentioned bands, they undercut primitivist harshness with a psychedelic whimsy reminiscent of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd or their own hometown's heyday. Strummed acoustics, cooing vocals, moments of spaciousness, and surprisingly sing-song hooks all pop out of the mix, making the jagged guitar bedrock all the more elevating.
