Juana Molina became the most unlikely of indie pop sensations in the mid-aughts; already a popular comedian and television star in her home country of Argentina, Molina decided in her thirties to try her hand at becoming a serious musician. With ethereal folk featuring echoes of the tango of her birth country, and the jaunty, poetic pop of France, along with a captivating live show, she slowly captured the fancy of both her skeptical homeland fans and critics and fans of gentle music in the States and worldwide. Her Spanish-language albums, released in the States on the fashionable Domino imprint, have become critical and college music favorites.
