Peruvian singer Susana Baca is joined by Brazilian legend Gilberto Gil on this exquisitely performed collection of folk-based material. An agreeable antidote to the typical pipe-based perceptions of Peruvian music, this guitar-centric collection features muted percussion, string arrangements, and contributions from such luminaries as New York musicians Marc Ribot and Kevin Breit, as well as Baca's signature strong-yet-sensitive vocals. Rhythmically compelling and subtly arranged, TRAVESIAS cements Baca's position as one of her country's most pre-eminent female vocalists.
