Review

Pitchfork (Website) - "TRAGIC BOOGIE downright revels in its excess....The Life and Times combine shoegazey guitars and textures with apocalyptic slabs of percussion and rhythm..."

Title Note

Personnel: Allen Epley (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, harp, strings, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, sound effects); The South Hyde Park Boys Choir (vocals); Eric Abert (baritone guitar, Moog synthesizer, bass guitar); Chris Metcalf (harp, strings, keyboard, drum set, bass drum, snare drum, drum machine, djembe, timpani).

Audio Mixer: Jason Livermore.

The layered guitar tracks have caused many listeners to label the Life And Times as a shoegaze band. Upon closer listen however, the aggressive drumming also calls to mind the Flaming Lips and the apparent prog influence has also invited comparison to Pink Floyd. And if that wasn't enough, singer/guitarist Allen Epley's vocals have also led fans and critics alike to mistake him for being British! Despite all the confusion and conflicting opinions, what those critics and fans can agree on is that TRAGIC BOOGIE is a satisfying and long-awaited follow-up to the Life And Times' 2005 full-length, SUBURBAN HYMNS.
