Title Note

A fascinating detour in Humble Pie's recording career, second album TOWN & COUNTRY resembles neither the mod-influenced sounds of its predecessor nor the hard-driving blues-rock that would subsequently make the band famous. Rather, it's a low-key, acoustic-oriented affair. That's not to say it's an album full of folkie ballads--most of the tracks still move along at a rocking clip--just that the dynamics and the tone are decidedly more on the quiet side. Where later Humble Pie rocked out … la the Faces, TOWN & COUNTRY is more like Faces bassman Ronnie Lane's later Slim Chance band. There's even a sitar-laden psych-pop track ("The Light of Love") just so we don't forget that this was 1969.
