Part of a series of discs celebrating Tony Bennett's 80th birthday, TONY BENNETT'S GREATEST HITS OF THE '50S features 16 tracks that show why no less an authority than Frank Sinatra thought that Bennett was the greatest jazz singer of all time. Recorded at the peak of his early years, these are performances by a man whose sureness and control are never in question, even on familiar tunes like "Lullaby of Broadway" and Charlie Chaplin's "Smile." The biggest hits came in the next decade, but this is prime material nonetheless.
