Thug-for-life Trick Daddy spent nearly a decade representing the Dirty South out of Miami's underground scene before crossing over to the mainstream in the mid 2000s. Making his mark as a mainstay in the crates of Miami club DJs, Trick Daddy's sound is marked by classic, high-energy crunk production, hardcore narratives that extol the virtues of street life, and explicit sex rhymes. He had his first cross-over hit with 2001's singalong "I'm a Thug," but hit pay dirt with the platinum-selling 2004 album THUG MATRIMONY.

Hip-hop artists have been claiming to be "thugged out" for years, but Trick Daddy gives true meaning to the phrase. Everything about him is thuggish, from his clothes to his way of life, so the title of his third album THUGS R US comes as no surprise.

He further explains his persona on the radio-friendly "I'm a Thug." Obvious hit material, the song features a children's choir on the chorus that's reminiscent of Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life." The Miami native doesn't forget his roots, with the booty-shaking track "Take It to Da House." Trick Daddy's slurred speech, which he defines as his ghetto slang, is his signature. It makes THUGS R US a one of a kind album.
