Austin-based quartet Explosions in the Sky are frequently referred to as "post rock" due to the fact that they are an instrumental group, but their cinematic, stately compositions draw from a number of sources. Together since 1999, the band's seasoned three-guitar and drums setup allows for dynamic layers of interplay that can be overwhelming in their intensity or languidly beautiful, often in the same epic-length track. Their songs crystallize dramatic moments without words and have, as a result, been used in a number of movies, television shows, and commercials, including an Austin Film Festival award-winning short and the soundtrack to FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.
