Beginning in the early 1990s, it seemed as though Georgia-born Tracy Lawrence couldn't release an album or single that didn't sail right to the top of the U.S. country charts. Lawrence takes a no-frills, honky-tonkin' approach to songwriting, yet still remains firmly planted in contemporary Nashville. And the deceptively deep cowboy poetry of his lyrics, hearkening back to such outlaw-country greats as Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings, has endeared him to both a new generation of country music fans and the Nashville establishment.
