A New York City-based performer who has jokingly referred to himself as a "recovering black male," singer/songwriter Shawn Amos exudes both wit and raw emotion on THANK YOU SHIRL-EE MAY, his remarkably assured Shout! Factory debut. The son of cookie magnate "Famous" Wally Amos, the artist discovered the 1960s singing career of his estranged mother, Shirlee Ellis Amos, only after her death, and wrote this song cycle as a tribute. Boasting a vocal and lyrical style that often recalls Elvis Costello, Amos leads listeners on a compelling journey through musical genres here, touching on funk, folk, chamber pop, rock, soul, and more.
